Flipped Learning: Flipping the EFL Classroom
Flipped learning is an innovative and effective pedagogical approach for the modern EFL classroom, as it creates numerous opportunities for active engagement. Under the guidance of their teachers, students take ownership of their learning and gain a better, more experiential understanding of the language. This gives them the chance to enjoy creative and productive class time, accomplishing a more solid learning outcome.
Abstract
Flipped learning is an innovative and effective pedagogical approach for the modern EFL classroom, where students are introduced to new content at home and practise working on it at school. At a time when teachers and learners have become quite familiar with online and blended learning, we can utilize new technologies to create more opportunities for active engagement during in-class time with students. This way, class time becomes more creative and productive and learning is clearly student-centered. Flipped learning allows teachers to offer all learners the individual attention and differentiation they need.
They have the opportunity to focus on struggling students while, at the same time, more advanced learners are given the freedom to work at their own faster pace. Allowing students to learn at their own pace and have their individual needs met is the essence of flipped learning and inspires teachers to update traditional methods.
Under the guidance of their teachers, students take ownership of their learning and gain a deeper, more experiential understanding of the language. Less passive learning means more active involvement and engagement for both students and teachers. As a result, learners develop the soft skills they need for the future and they enjoy creative and productive class time, accomplishing a deeper and well-rounded learning outcome. In this presentation the speaker will elaborate on the four pillars of flipped learning, the step-by-step methodology as well as its benefits and challenges, complete with practical examples and ideas.
