Telling our stories in and out of the classroom

Our existence as a human race is an amalgam of stories; they inform, educate, enlighten, enchant, provoke, inspire. They are the driving force of how we interact with and shape our world and how we interact with each other. They teach us to embrace differences and create a sense of community and belonging.

The stories of our lives as Black and Brown English teachers in Brazil is the highlight of our first ever event, "Telling our stories in and out of the classroom". With opening and closing pep talks by our coordinators Marianna Lourenço and Humberto Baltar respectively, the online event invites teachers (members or non-members of BRAZ-TESOL) to present ten-minute talks along these themes/ideas:

1. Anti-Racist approaches in ELT
2. Opportunities and challenges of teacher development for Black and Brown English teachers in Brazil
3. Social emotional support for Black and Brown English teachers
4. Representativeness in ELT

Talks will be accepted in English and Portuguese because we believe language can unite us when we make an effort to establish communication and understanding.

Remember: when we recognize each others' stories, we can celebrate our victories and identify with our struggles. And like the classroom, we can make the SIG a safe and all-inclusive learning space for its members.
