SIG Mission: 

We are the Bilingual Education Special Interest Group of BRAZ-TESOL. Our main goal is to build a supportive community of educators interested in learning and sharing to contribute to the development of bilingual education in Brazil.

SIG Team

Lilian Montalvão

Lilian Montalvão, based in Belo Horizonte, has been dedicated to Young Learner English teaching for almost 20 years in different educational contexts and roles. She has worked as a teacher, pedagogical coordinator, and consultant. She is currently a materials writer and teacher educator. She is also a guest professor at Curso de Aperfeiçoamento em Educação Bilíngue, at UFMG. She holds a Master's in Education, she has specialized in Early Years Education, and holds an English Language Teaching Degree. She is also a certified Positive Discipline Educator and a CPE holder. Her main interests include Bilingual Education, Young Learner teaching, and active learning methodologies.

Renata Chimim

Renata Chimim is based in São Paulo-SP. She holds a degree in Languages (English & Portuguese) and Pedagogy, an M.A. in Applied Linguistics & Language Studies, and an MBA in Ed. Leadership. She also holds a CELTA and a TESOL certificate plus specialization courses in Bilingual Education. She is a Reading Specialist with experience teaching ELLs (English Language Learners) in bilingual, international, and American schools. She is also a Teacher Trainer, an ELT Author, Materials Writer, and Editor.

Kenia Santos

Kenia Santos is a pedagogist based in Belo Horizonte-MG. She's a specialist in Art History, Contemporary Visual Arts, Creative Education, and Bilingual and Plurilingual Education. She has been in the ELT field for over 20 years and has worked as a teacher, teacher trainer, pedagogical coordinator, and materials writer. She holds a CPE, and a CELTA. She is currently a product specialist with an edtech company, a bilingual Fine Arts teacher, and a teacher trainer.

Dani Hersey

Dani Hersey is a materials writer, teacher, and teacher educator who is currently working on a Master of Education in TESOL, ESL, and Bilingual Education. Her background in art regularly intersects with her love for language, and she is passionate about active methodologies and maker-centered learning.

Dani Sales

Danielle Sales is an ELT editor and has been into publishing for 25 years. She holds a BA in Languages (Translation and Interpreting, English and Portuguese), a postgraduation in Adult Education, a postgraduation in Distance Learning, a Master's in Children's Literature (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona). She is currently researching Brazilian women translators from the XIX Century at USP. She was also a voluntary teacher at Projeto Inglês da Família (British Council) and Escola da Ponte.
