From the Classroom to the Web - New Ways to Foster Intercultural Awareness - "Teacher's Month 2024" -

Our session includes the exploration of three different ways to increase learners’ intercultural communicative competence, from online and in-person intercultural exchanges and project-based learning initiatives. Speakers will discuss projects which have brought together students from different parts of the world on online platforms and in international schools, as well as intercultural dimensions of project-based learning.

Worldwide Adventures in Online Intercultural Exchanges - Hugo Dart + Jane Coury

We will discuss how different initiatives have connected Brazilian students to peers from various continents using a variety of online platforms. We will also propose some dynamic activities that aim to enhance students’ linguistic skills while expanding their intercultural communicative competence.

 

Intercultural visions of PBL: Fostering learning through projects - Isabella Campos + Sthefanie Duarte

This talk invites teachers to explore the benefits and challenges of implementing projects in various educational settings , emphasizing the intercultural dimensions of such projects. The presenters will share real-life examples of projects carried out in both public and private language schools, highlighting key factors to consider when planning in different contexts. Through this discussion, they aim to provide practical insights into the outcomes and learning opportunities that projects offer for both teachers and students.

 

Intercultural Exchange in International Schools: fostering a multicultural environment - Gustavo Barcellos

This talk aims at discussing initiatives taken by international schools in Brasília when it comes to embracing students from different cultures in the same environment.  The presenter will share how each school deals with a multicultural environment and what is done in each of them to buffer cultural “noise” and foster acceptance and understanding of other cultures. The schools reached were the Swiss International School, The American School of Brasília and the School of the Nations. Numbers of students from other countries and native from Brazil will also be provided in order to contextualize their different realities.
