Chapter Mission:
To connect and strengthen the English Language Teaching community across Brazil's Northeast by creating accessible opportunities for professional development, exchange, research and collaboration, while valuing the knowledge, talent and cultural diversity of the region.
The Northeast Chapter is part of BRAZ-TESOL, the largest association of English teachers in Brazil.
Strategic Objectives
1 - Build an engaged regional ELT community
Create recurring opportunities for teachers and other ELT professionals to meet, exchange
experiences, build relationships and feel connected to colleagues beyond their own classrooms and
institutions.
2 - Promote meaningful professional development
Offer workshops, talks, study groups, discussions, training sessions and other learning opportunities
based on the needs and interests of professionals in the region.
3 - Increase access to knowledge, resources and current developments in ELT
Use events, online content, publications, discussions and partnerships to make professional learning
accessible beyond professionals who already attend large conferences or work within well-resourced
institutions.
4 - Value and amplify expertise from the Northeast
Give regional teachers, teacher educators, researchers and other professionals opportunities to share
their work, while incorporating the cultural and linguistic richness of the Northeast into Chapter
activities.
5 - Connect different sectors and institutions
Develop relationships with public and private schools, universities, language institutes, publishers,
teacher associations and other relevant organizations, creating opportunities for collaboration,
venues, academic exchange and financial or logistical support.
6 - Encourage research, reflective practice and exchange of ideas
Create spaces where academic research and classroom practice can meet, including reading groups,
research-sharing sessions, discussions and opportunities for regional researchers to communicate
their work to the broader teaching community.
7 - Develop a sustainable volunteer community and future leaders
Build structures that allow members to participate beyond attending events, gradually involving
volunteers in projects, committees and Chapter leadership while maintaining BRAZ-TESOL
governance, financial, communication and LGPD requirements.
