ELT Goes Green: Language for Change

As global challenges such as climate change and environmental sustainability become increasingly urgent, educators play a crucial role in shaping how learners understand and respond to these issues. ELT Goes Green: Language for Change, organized by the BRAZ-TESOL Rio Chapter, invites English language educators to explore how ELT can contribute to greater environmental awareness and meaningful action.
This event brings together educators who are integrating sustainability into their teaching practices through innovative projects, critical discussions, and real-world connections. The sessions will present practical ideas and inspiring examples of how environmental themes can enrich language learning while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and global citizenship.
Importantly, this conversation goes beyond one specific teaching context. ELT Goes Green is designed for educators working in a wide range of settings, from bilingual and international schools to language institutes, universities, and adult education programmes. Sustainability is a global issue, and language classrooms at all levels can play a powerful role in helping learners engage with the challenges of our time.
We are also proud to welcome our plenary speaker, Christopher Graham, an ELT and Sustainability Education consultant and author based in Scotland. He has worked globally with the British Council, ministries of education, and publishers. Christopher is the President of IATEFL, chairs both the Board of Trustees and the Conference Committee, and serves on the Board of Trustees of International House, London. He has twice been part of teams awarded the British Council ELTon. His professional interests include ELT and sustainability, teacher education in conflict and post-conflict contexts, and train-the-trainer development.
Join us to reflect, learn, and discover how language teaching can become a powerful tool for awareness, dialogue, and change.
