Where we are and where we want to be

BELT SIG presents: Where We Are and Where We Want to Be
November 17–18 | Two days of reflection, dialogue, and professional growth
Where are we in the journey toward a more decolonial and anti-racist approach to English language teaching, and where do we want to go?
Join BELT (Black English Language Teachers) SIG for two days of critical reflection, knowledge sharing, and professional development focused on the challenges and opportunities of transforming ELT practices.
Through experience reports, theoretical discussions, reflective journals, and examples of good practice, this event invites teachers to share how decoloniality, anti-racist education, social and climate justice, interculturality, and ancestry are addressed in their classrooms, whether through institutional initiatives or everyday teaching practices.
Together, we will explore the challenges educators face, from gaps in theoretical, historical, and cultural knowledge to the need for professional development, institutional support, and greater familiarity with specialized terminology. We will also reflect on the opportunities these perspectives create for more inclusive, critical, and socially responsive English language teaching.
